After lunch, West Indies began their reply with Jaker Ali Anik behind the stumps after practising during the interval, because Litton Das, unbeaten on 34 from 88 balls, had been struck on the right elbow while batting and could not take the field.

Naeem Hasan put down a chance at backward point in the third over, when John Campbell was on five, off Hasan Mahmud, with West Indies 22 without loss.

Campbell later hit two fours, but the opening stand was broken in the fifth over.

John Campbell, twice reprieved on five and 22, raced to a 61 ball half century, his sixth in Tests and third in a row.

Hasan Mahmud found Brandon King’s edge outside off stump, and the ball went into the gloves of substitute Jaker Ali Anik, ending a 29 run stand off 29 balls. King made 15 from 20 balls with three fours, and Tagenarine Chanderpaul came in at 29-1.

Campbell survived again on 22 when Shoriful Islam, slow to react, failed to take a return catch off his own bowling in the 15th over, the ball carrying little pace at a good height. West Indies reached 52-1 after 15 overs.

Campbell reached his fifty by hitting Mehidy Hasan Miraz for four then six in successive balls. The four took the stand with Chanderpaul to 50 and the six completed his half century off 61 balls, his sixth in Tests and third in a row.

Gloom then settled over Mirpur, and with the floodlights already on, the light reading fell below the threshold applied the previous day. The players left for an early tea at 2pm, with West Indies 89-1 after 27 overs, Campbell on 53 from 65 balls.

Bangladesh resumed on 213-3 after bad light had also spoiled day one, halting Shadman Islam twice in the final session and leaving him waiting on 99 not out, with Litton Das on seven.

Play stopped for around 45 minutes, and Shadman added three runs before the light ended play four overs later.

They lost their last seven wickets for 59 runs, all out for 272 in 97.3 overs shortly before lunch. Jomel Warrican took five for 53, ending the innings by removing Taijul Islam and Shoriful Islam in consecutive balls.

Campbell has hit six fours and two sixes in his unbeaten 53, while Chanderpaul is on 21 from 77 balls.

Bangladesh are paying for the two missed catches, and West Indies still trail by 183 runs with nine wickets in hand.
