2013 Khaleda movement obstruction: Ex-joint secy Pasha remanded for 7 days

A Dhaka court on Thursday placed former joint secretary Syed Jaglul Pasha on a seven-day remand in a case over allegedly preventing BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia from joining a political rally in 2013 by placing sand-laden trucks outside her Gulshan residence and using pepper spray.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Didarul Alam passed the order after police produced Pasha before the court and sought a 10-day remand for interrogation.

Pasha was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police from his residence in the capital's Bashundhara area at around 1:30am on Tuesday. On August 5, the court sent him to jail.

According to the prosecution, Pasha and others, as part of a premeditated plan, placed sand-laden trucks around Khaleda Zia's Gulshan residence on December 29, 2013, to prevent her from attending a BNP rally.

The prosecution further alleged that when Khaleda Zia attempted to leave her residence, she was obstructed by force and pepper spray was used against her.

The case was filed with Gulshan Police Station on October 4, 2024, by former Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader Shariful Islam Shaon.
